My Time at Portia is a video game where you play as a character who moves to a town called Portia. In Portia, you can explore, farm, mine, fish, and interact with the people who live there. Your main goal is to restore your father's old workshop to its former glory by completing tasks and crafting items. Along the way, you'll make friends, go on adventures, go on dates, get married and uncover secrets about the town and its inhabitants.

The game is set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, where civilization has begun to rebuild itself after the collapse of a previous advanced society. The remnants of this old world can be found scattered throughout the game, such as ruins and relics, hinting at the past technological advancements. Despite this setting, the game focuses more on exploration, crafting, and building relationships rather than survival in a harsh, post-apocalyptic environment.

Fandom

Many fans consider MTAP to be a wholesome game. It's known for its charming art style, relaxed gameplay mechanics, and positive atmosphere. Players enjoy the sense of community in the town of Portia, as well as the opportunities for creativity through crafting and building.

There have been some criticisms regarding the bachelor options in the game. Some players have expressed disappointment over the limited selection of bachelor characters, as well as the perceived lack of diversity in their appearances and personalities compared to the bachelorettes and that many of them are unattractive, with the Hulu Brothers (septuplets who are identical except for the color of their clothes) taking seven slots[1]. Arlo is by a big difference, one of the most popular bachelors among players. A high number of players choose to romance him. He is known for his strong and dependable personality, as well as his role as the leader of the Civil Corps in the game. Some players consider him the most good looking bachelor of the game. Gust is also popular and considered attractive, however, some players may find his personality off-putting or perceive him as arrogant or aloof, leading to label him as "a jerk." Gust is known for his somewhat cold and standoffish demeanor, although it is said that as the relationship with the MC progresses, he opens up and shows a sweeter side.[2] Mint is also a popular bachelor although there have been some criticism regarding his English voice acting.[3]

There has also been criticism regarding some character designs and outfits. The initial design for Nora, which depicted her as a sexualized nun, received backlash from players who felt that it was inappropriate. As a result, the developers redesigned Nora's character. This also applies to Phyllis. There are concerns about her nurse outfit, which resembles a "slutty" nurse costume rather than realistic attire for a medical professional.

Ginger is a bachelorette and a beloved character. Initially, Ginger's storylin involved her unavoidably succumbing to her illness, reflecting a realistic and poignant aspect of the world and life. This decision by the developers was influenced by a team member's personal experience of having lost an aunt to cancer. However, some players expressed sadness at the inability to save Ginger, prompting the developers to release a quest where players could obtain a medicine to temporarily save her for one in-game year. Players can repeat the quest to keep extending Ginger's lifespan, providing a sense of hope and fulfillment for those who wanted to see her survive. This change demonstrates the developers' responsiveness to player feedback.[4]

Higgins portrayal was also changed by the devs following player's feedback. Initially, Higgins was portrayed as the Builder Rival and he had a consistently antagonistic relationship with the player character, often engaging in negative interactions and attempting to sabotage the player's efforts. Additionally, Higgins could not be romanced or befriended, and his role in the game was primarily as a competitive adversary. The initial decision to make Higgins unromanceable and unbefriendable was intended to add a realistic touch to the game. The developers aimed to reflect the idea that in life, not everyone can be befriended, and there are individuals who may always remain antagonistic or difficult to get along with. However, in response to player feedback and the desire for more nuanced interactions with Higgins, the developers made changes to his character. They introduced new quests and opportunities for players to cultivate a friendship with Higgins, allowing for more positive interactions and the potential for romance.
