It was held at a hotel in Stony Brook, NY. The GoHs were Samuel R. Delany and Norman Spinrad.

I-Con was preceded by SUNYcon (hosted at the student union, April 14, 1973), MudCon (hosted at a hotel, May 8, 1977), and BrookCon (3-day event on campus, a financial failure, October 28–30, 1977).
