Reactions/Reviews

Somehow this ending is tragic in a bittersweet way. There's the hope of a new spring, but at the moment everything is overshadowed by cold and grief. I'd have rather had a more uplifting ending, but this way it also works.

It's nice how you worked out the parallels between Barbarella and Arven, how they're essentially sitting in the same boat. I imagine that this shared understanding would be good soil for a long and deep friendship.

Well, the only thing left to be said is a big thank you. Thanks for the time and effort you put into giving us readers a piece of quality reading time each week. I appreciate it very much.[1]

Barbarella to the rescue! The only thing that worries me is the fact that Barbarella is a girl. But then again she has proven herself as a capable person and she has a high status. I really liked [chapter 33], even though it did not have a high awesome battle scene, because it really showed Barbarella in connection with many characters. It showed how well she is connected and showed just how women are able to strive power through friends and having good connections. I guess it made Barbarella seem all more real to me. She is not an all-powerful female character that just gets things done. She is a female character that has had to prove herself to the world and relies on the help of the people around her as well as her own wit, just like any other person in the world. You have done a good job characterizing Barbarella but for some reason this chapter really hit home. [2]

In Misfit in Minas Tirith (2010), Barbarella accompanies Princess Éowyn to Minas Tirith and again becomes centrally involved in the story without drastically altering Tolkien’s plot. She meets a number of original characters, including a very memorable elf, and it’s finally explained, or at least hinted at, how and why Barbarella came to Middle Earth.

From the title of the first novel I was rather expecting it to be comic, but the story is straight fantasy adventure, though Barbarella has a nice sense of humor and her first-person narration contains a fair amount of wit. I confess I haven't read much in the way of fan fiction, but I very much enjoyed both novels, in fact staying up almost all of one night reading the second one. As is typical with fan fiction, they can be read for free on line.[3]

Wow. An extremely fitting sequel to 'Misfit in Middle Earth'. This was a fantastic story and it's been an amazing ride. The only thing I'm a little discontent with is Barbarella's pairing. I suppose I suspected it the moment they met, but I was rather hoping she would stay single. Bah, oh well. At least she ended up with a nice guy.

Thanks so much for writing such a fabulous story. It's definitely one of the better LOTR fics I've read. :) [4]

That was a beautiful wrap up to a compelling story. I find that much of what you said is true, that the elf was the sue, although she was a well placed and necessary sue, and that Barb was realistic given the story lines origional time and place before middle earth. I truely enjoyed this piece, it was definitely a different kind of 'dropped into ME' fic and that placed it into an even higher caliber of fic. All in all, i am very pleased with this story and happy that barb did indeed allude to "snagging an cannon boyfriend" as you put it in one of your author's notes. I hope that you continue to write and that you continue to let the power of Tolkien compell you. [5]

Wow. This (and the prequel) was probably one of the best fanfics I have read. Like ever! Barb is so genuine and I felt like you did a great job of keeping her out of marysue territory. He inner dialogue kept me laughing, too! I nearly died when she talked about the "stealth proposal" haha.

This was just so amazing. I'm sure you know how difficult it is to find good "girl falls into ME" stuff but this hit the spot! I will for sure be looking out for more of your stuff! :) [6]

i resent the like bedouin comment. tolkien did enough to make racist caricatures of poc without you adding to it[7]
