Reactions and Reviews

There are a lot of amusing and entertaining moments in this Mirror Universe tale: Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are all appropriately naughty. They talk about sex...and more sex...and more sex. Mirror Spock is deliriously uninhibited: the description of the outfit he wears for his shore leave is just breathtaking. However, if this is supposed to be the same Mirror Universe we saw in the episode"Mirror, Mirror" (maybe the third "Mirror" in the title indicates that it's not the same?), then this story suffers from a problem common to many Mirror Universe K/S stories: Kirk and Spock and McCoy are all just way too nice to each other, not too mention way too trusting of one another. The worst they do is tease each other mercilessly, whereas in the real Mirror Universe, every one of these men is a genuinely dangerous person and jumping into bed with any one of them would be a genuinely dangerous thing to do—and I don't mean dangerous in an exciting, nothing-really-bad-will-happen way—I mean dangerous in a potentially fatal way. Still, for those who are willing to suspend disbelief, "Mirror Mirror Mirror" is a fun read. [1]

A.T. Bush stories are like potato chips—and I can’t have just one.

Her stories, including this one, have the signature sly humor and outrageousness that may be an acquired taste. But I love it. How can you resist a Mirror Kirk who walks into sickbay and asks: “Giving Spock a blow-job, Bones?” or “Nice dick” concerning Spock’s equipment. The story progresses uphill or downhill from there— depending on your point of view—but I laughed out loud at the funny and raunchy humor. Kirk and Spock go to a “male club”—that’s the story. I could quote just about all the lines, but I particularly loved: McCoy commenting on Spock’s appearance: “An ass-fucker’s dream.” And Kirk being concerned about how he looks in different room light. And: “No pimples on Spock’s delectable little butt.” And this: “Indeed? You indulge in games.” “Oh yes, when it’s with someone I can trust.” Kirk stopped beside the bed to stare directly into brown eyes. “Can I trust you?” “With your all.” Spock offered the Vulcan salute. Kirk caught the slim hand and pulled the naked Vulcan onto the wide bed with him. “Good enough.”

A.T. Bush hasn’t been writing much recently, so this was a treat. May the K/S muse inspire her soon. [2]
