Miku.earth is a fansite and corresponding Tumblr blog displaying and collecting fanart of Hatsune Miku in different cultural clothing from around the world.
History
Miku.earth was created on August 28th, 2024 by mira-hildegard, who stated:
This is an anthropological effort to collate artwork showing how people self-represent their own culture in digital media. It is a wholly serious effort meant to uplift artist voices and collate this trend for the long term.[1]
As of October 13th, 2024, the map contains 1,231 works of art[2] and the Tumblr description states that more than 3,000 Mikus have been found overall.[1]
Structure
The fansite is hosted on Github Pages and run using Maptiler. The creator uses a custom queue program to collect more Mikus than Tumblr's 1000 post queue limit will allow; the code is available on Github.[3]
