I posted my first piece of fanfic in December 2002, so almost 5 years now. (This always seems like a big number until I run into people who have been around since the zine days XD )

I like the characters and their interactions. I like John and Rodney and Radek and Ronon and Teyla and Weir and even Chuck the Technician. As for the fandom, I like the fact that for once I got into a fandom while the series was still airing -- I didn't discover TPM until after Attack of the Clones came out, so the fandom was slowing way, way down; I didn't discover HL until long after it had been off the air. It's neat getting to see a fictional fandom develop over time as the series evolves.
