May, or Haruka in Japan, is a character in the Pokémon franchise. She as Ash's traveling companion in the second series of the anime and can also be chosen as the player character in the Generation III video games Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, and Pokémon Emerald (though "May" is not among the default names). If the male player character, Brendan, is chosen, May serves as the rival.
AdvanceShipping (Ash/May) and ContestShipping (Drew/May) are both popular anime ships. Game pairings include HoennShipping (Brendan/May) and NewRivalShipping (Wally/May).
