Canon

In canon, Manuela Dominguez ia a bit of a side character and a villain/antagonist. Manuela is of Mexican descent and becomes a Physicist, Astronaut, and member of the in universe religious cult based around The Dark (Aka the eldritch deity involved in the fear of the unknown and the dark). She's basically regarded as a bit of a mad scientist. She becomes a project leader and crew member on The Daedalus, a private space shuttle program organized by antagonist with the goal of experimenting with people's fears of isolation and darkness. She uses this mission to create a "Dark Sun" which is later meant to be used to supernaturally eclipse the sun from earth.

Fandom

Manuela is a minor character but has some presence in fandom, and many find her interesting, but since she is a side character and also involved in a fair amount of Gen fic, most ships with her tend to be considered rare pairs with fics in the single digits for each. She is most often shipped with other members of the Dark cult or The Daedalus Expedition, Julia Montauk being a common Dark-involved partner for her, as well as with Jude Perry.

Fic involving her tends towards F/F.

On a less serious side, Manuela, along with Maxwell Rayner and Julia Montauk is often referenced in memes about disliking sunlight of migraines in particular - often phrased along the lines of "See, Manuwela/Maxwell/Julia agrees, the sun, that sonofabitch needs to be turned off!"
