The name mandc_watch stands for 'M and C Watch', M&C being fannish shorthand for the 2003 film Master and Commander: the Far Side of the World. The original LiveJournal comm mandc_watch was set up in 2007, with the tagline We're going to watch Master and Commander together, all at the same time, all from within our own time zones. And at the same time, we are going to squee. We are the United Nations of Patrick O'Brian Love: UNOPOBL.[1]
When some fans moved to Dreamwidth for various reasons, sharpiefan felt it was important that it become home and set up an equivalent comm with the same name at mandc_watch in 2012.
