this is when someone sends you an ask giving you a choice between two things, and you make an edit based on the concept/thing/character you prefer[1]
The fan edits are usually gif sets and graphics, but meta is also common, explaining the fan's preference for one thing over another. How the meme began is unclear, but like other memes there are variants.
