Machines are an integral part of the post-apocalyptic video game series Horizon, and as a result are often featured in fanworks for the fandom.

Canon

Most of the machines are designed after familiar animals, though some, such as the Metal Flowers, resemble plants.

Machines

  • Watcher (Two Versions: Original & Redeye variant) - Resembles a small therapod dinosaur
  • Strider - Resembles a horse
  • Scrapper - Resembles a hyena
  • Grazer - Resembles a deer
  • Broadhead - Resembles a cow
  • Lancehorn - Resembles an antelope
  • Charger - Resembles a ram
  • Longleg - Resembles a terror bird, or some other kind of giant flightless bird
  • Sawtooth - Resembles a Smilodon (aka saber-toothed cat)

Fandom

Some machines tend to show up in fanworks more than others. Watchers in particular seem to be fairly popular, though Striders and other mountable machines are also often portrayed. The popularity of Watchers in the fandom is likely down to a few reasons: firstly that they are the first machines Aloy encounters, and secondly that their appearance fulfills a possible 'cuteness' niche - akin to a character like Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon.

Fan Machines

Fans will sometimes create their own designs for machines, resembling a variety of animals such as the armadillo, nautilus, and moose.
