Excerpts

What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?

I like to write pairings that complement each other, and I feel like Darcy and Bucky do that. There are equal amounts of give and take and I think that’s important in an OTP-level pairing.

Bucky’s canon story is so sad and I think the pull of his character is that he is so sympathetic. He’s really a victim of forces beyond his control, and even though he is forced to do horrible things, his goodness still shines through, and that makes him an even sadder character.

The desire to counter all of that sadness is what really lead me to ship him with Darcy. Darcy, who is all light and goodness despite all the difficulties she’s endured. I think she brings a lightness to the ship that has the potential to bring Bucky out of the shadows. And when I read fics that do that really well, it makes me so happy.

Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons?

I like gruff Brooklyn Bucky. Is that a thing?

I headcanon that he’s really good at calming Darcy down when she gets flustered. Which is often. And that he’s constantly having to remind her to take care of herself when she’s in full on Jane-Assistant-mode. He’s been known to come down to the lab and throw Darcy over his shoulder, declaring that she’s off the clock and the relaxing starts in five minutes.

Do you associate any particular songs with Wintershock? If so, which one?

‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles. Back when I was writing Beatles Song Prompts, it was one of the first prompts I received. This song has always held a special place in my heart, and I got really emotional writing the Wintershock one shot for it, so ever since, it’s always kind of been cemented as a Bucky/Darcy song to me.
