Excerpts

What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?

I love Wintershock because I feel like, deep down, both of them are incredibly similar, but not so similar that they drive each other bonkers. They’re both protective and nurturing, though their personalities show those traits off in a different way. And that’s what’s fun. You can have Darcy be her natural caring self toward Bucky, and have him do the same for her. Bucky needs someone who can do that for him because of all that’s happened to him, and Darcy needs the same because I feel she takes care of everyone before she takes care of herself.

How did you first encounter the pairing?

I’m fairly certain the first Wintershock fic I ever read was The Best Laid Plans series by Wynn. To this day, it’s still one of my favorites. Wynn showcased both characters at their extremes, and it’s so. Much. FUN.

Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons?

Again, I think they’re both nurturers. And that both would go the extra mile to make the other happy. There are variants on this - for example, a more extreme version of things would be Bucky going all Winter Soldier on some baddies to get Darcy back if she were kidnapped or something - but at it’s root, it’s all about wanting to make the other happy and safe. I also like to make Darcy incredibly competent - be that at baking, science, PR for the Avengers - because we need more unapologetically awesome women in the world.
