Love Never Fails is a slash Highlander story by Maxine Meyer.

Summary: (WARNING: child abuse and extreme violence) Separated for sixty years, Duncan and Methos meet again in 2084, after a World War in which civilization has collapsed and been reconstituted along very restrictive lines - particularly for Immortals and Pre-Immortals. Both men have done (and continue to do) terrible things to survive. But as the title indicates, love doesn't fail. (GRAPHIC m/m sex) (implied m/m sex between major characters and children)

Reactions and Reviews

This is a great one!.... I like the particular way Maxine sees the relationship between duncan and Methos in this one as well as I am very intersted in the universe she created for it. I only think she should write a sequel in which we would lear n more about this future universe, or a prequel that tells the story how the whole thing ened up there.[1]

Like Beck's fascinating tale, Winterborne, this takes place in a dystopian future where immortals need to make some very difficult choices in order to survive. This story may be hard to deal with emotionally. Maxine includes some warnings. Please pay heed to them and avoid the story if you don't think you can stomach it.[2]

I honestly don't know when Maxine Meyer posted "Love Never Fails". She doesn't date her posts. I only know that I read it in 1999 and was bowled over by the amazing dystopian concept. It's my nomination for runner up in the slash category. This dystopia involves child abuse, and it's difficult to read, yet there's hope for redemption. Mac and Methos make the choice to care about young pre-immortals at considerable risk to themselves. I find it wonderfully heroic.[3]
