Fandom

Orbit Renaissance

The second album One of a Kind was released on April 15, 2024, with the title track "Girls' Night". This era saw a resurgence of memes and hoaxes among the fandom.

Around 2018, as a collective fandom, Orbits were known to make viral tweets and blatant lies as a form of promotion for the group (for example, see Lesbian Korean Billionaires). However, throughout the early 2020s, this was growing uncommon.

The Girls' Night era saw a resurgence of this old fandom practice, sometimes called the 'Orbit Renaissance'. First, Go Won went viral on Twitter for being cast in a live-action adaptation of Strawberry Shortcake. Even the official Strawberry Shortcake responded denying the claim. Another Orbit hoax involved ViVi being cast in the Netflix adaptation of One Piece. Lastly, for "Girls' Night" promotions, Go Won dyed her hair red. Orbits began circulating misinformation that Go Won was the first Irish K-Pop idol with natural red hair, and her given name is "Park Gowon O'Dwyer".

TTYL Trend

An infographic promoting the trend

In August 2024, Loossemble announced they were releasing their third mini-album titled TTYL. Ahead of the album release, fans started a viral trend inspired by the green tinted album cover.

Many K-Pop Stan Twitter accounts added a green tint to their profile pictures, using the hex color codes #FFFFFF for the base and #A2BA39 for the tint. This was done using websites like Duotone Shapefactory and Duotone Maker.

This trend quickly spread across Orbit Twitter, with fans applying the tint to images of other artists, brands, or characters and captioning them with phrases like "if she/he/they was #TTYL".

This trend was likely inspired by the similar neon green branding and meme for Charli XCX's album "brat".

Pretty (surprisingly) big/overwhelming amount of people on my timeline are switching their profile pictures to, well, the same one but with a green filter layered over it, thanks to this. I'm also seeing people sending other big official accounts (ktown, youtube, etc) what their icon would look like with the green filter.

I suppose it's ""stupid"" but it's just sooooo unequivocally Orbits-core, especially from 2018 to 2021-ish, that I simply have to stan and appreciate. I am sometimes nostalgic for these type of things, as the division on LOONA Island has often made these things, well, less common.[1]
