I thought this was an unusual premise, and there were some nice images, but I didn't care for the story. The idea that inner pain can be wiped away through one act of sex may seem comforting to some, but it's not realistic. The story also wasn't quite as carefully written as I would like. There are occasional small lapses of character such as Spock's jaw dropping. Spock registers his astonishment more subtly. He would never drop his jaw even at his most astonished. The K/S relationship itself begins a bit too suddenly in this story. It could have used more foreshadowing. Then there are details that would have been gotten right if the author had taken more time. a) It's stated that melds are done in the course of duty had been deeper than the first K/S meld during sex because Spock had to probe deeply for information in the professional melds. Information is conscious, and is therefore to be found in the surface memory. Emotions are subconscious and would therefore be on a deeper level, b) If Kirk's cock was rubbed raw, and the lube was absorbed, the obvious solution is to apply more lube, c) After Spock sponged Kirk with a wet cloth, his temperature equilibrium should have been restored. He shouldn't have continued to be so warm that he didn't need blankets. That implies that he's ill. Details such as these are important in that when the author gets them right they help to maintain the story's believability. When I notice that details are wrong, my concentration is disrupted, and it's more difficult for me to enjoy the story. [1]
