Limited Partnership is a Mike/Harvey Pretend Relationship story by Pookaseraph. It was first published in July 2012 on AO3. There's a podfic recorded of this story.[1]
Summary
Mike isn't entirely certain how he let Donna and Jessica talk him into marrying Harvey while his boss was in a coma, even if they swore he wouldn't mind. He thought the hardest part would be going to the hospital and confronting the sight of his boss and friend lying there, but instead it turned out to be confronting his growing feelings for a man he'd never imagined seeing in a romantic light. Harvey's just glad he woke up from his coma, and trying to not be too upset that he's now married to the Associate he's had a crush on for over a year.
Reviews
By this point it should be widely known how much I love the fake married trope. This fic does not disappoint. Some points deducted for Mike’s sexuality crisis at the end, because he was all about the rigid labels for sexuality and I feel like he’d be more chill than that, but that’s just me. Otherwise highly entertaining, worth reading.[2]
How could I not read a story when the description is: “Mike isn’t entirely certain how he let Donna and Jessica talk him into marrying Harvey while his boss was in a coma, even if they swore he wouldn’t mind.” ? That’s pure insanity, right there, I can never resist stories that soap-opera-y. <3[3]
Mike fake-marries Harvey, who’s madly in love with him. This is probably the most soap-opera-y plot to exist (though there’s no sudden amnesia!), but it’s a great spin on the trope. The characters are both lovely, and the pining is really well done. It’s a very sweet get-together story.[4]
oh my god, this was so well written and all the emotions were so amazing and I really liked how Harvey was the one to fall in love first and Mike just slowly realizing how much he really liked/loved Harvey and ugh this whole story was perfection. This was the first Mike/Harvey I read and you have set my expectations very very high[5]
Having just re-read it, I needed to comment that I love it even more, (now that I could slow down to appreciate even better, instead of needing to inhale it in huge gulps) The wit, intelligence, and humor are incredible. I want to savor and giggle at so many phrases! Well, I really really hope that you write more in this fandom, because this is some of the best (in fic and fanfic both) that I've ever read, and your ability to write the boys in a solid, loving, and uplifting manner makes me so happy![6]
I have no idea how I missed this story. Just found it through a rec list & read it straight through instead of doing my laundry and dishes. This story was just the right mixture of sweet and angsty, not to mention funny and touching as well. Your pacing was spot on so the story never bogged down in angst, but it also grounded the characters enough that it didn't become silly given the "soap opera" nature of the original conceit. I loved every moment of it and found myself becoming irrationally attached to this particular version of Mike and Harvey. Thank you so much for sharing.[7]
Do not underestimate the silly premises: it is the ability of the writer to suspend the disbelief that makes reading fiction such a great thing ( if we needed realism we would be asking our neighbours for their proposal story). What you achieved here is wonderful! It starts with a what if and it ends with exploring all the way through what makes two people get out of their comfort zone and fall for each other. And you did it with the right balance of romance, fluff, humour and realism to make it feel perfect! Harvey and Mike are just so canon it is unbelievable. ( I have totaly added this one in my canon: all this cooking and eating and sharing in the kitchen..they totaly stole from you in S3 midfinale with that Scottie scene...I was seeing Mike in there all the time... LOL). So...thank you! And thank you again![8]
