BREAK AWAY FROM MEGA-FANDOM -- FIND LIBERATION!
Description
From a flyer:
An informal Blake's 7 club for Chicago area fans.
WHAT LIBERATION ISN'T: a big club with dues, officers, by-laws, rules and regulations.
WHAT LIBERATION IS: an informal gathering of area fans, for the expressed purpose of getting together and talking about our favorite TV show.
As a reaction to big, impersonal clubs with no feeling of "belonging". Liberation was conceived by area fans who wanted to meet other area fans. Liberationisbyfans, forfans—wewillbewhatyouwantustobe. Right now we're planning on monthly get-togethers at a mutually convenient locale (usually someone's home), a chance to meet other fans, a chance to trade ideas and opinions on any aspect of Blake's 7 fandom, a forum for aspiring writers and artists, etc. etc.
We'd like to start a contact list of all area B7 fans who want to be a part of it (how many of you thought at first you were the only B7 fan on earth, never dreaming there were so many others in your area alone—probably thinking the exact same thing!)
If interest warrants, at a later date we may also start a newsletter.
The End
In 1994, they were described on the Lysator mailing list:
In the list of B7 clubs posted a week or 2 ago, I noticed a reference to the Chicago group "Liberation." They were a pretty active bunch for a while & put on several fun cons (SomaCon) and also a letterzine & several issues of a genzine. But as of last year, they had disbanded. No more group, no more zines. (Since I was always an out-of-town member, I have very little idea why, or what any of the formerly-active members have been up to since then.) I also don't know who, if anyone, can now supply copies of their zine (A Plain Man's Guide to Alien Invasion vols. 1-2, I think) or if it's gone OOP & unavailable. It's a shame when a good group dissolves like this, but it does happen... [1]
