Summary
An accident on a call leaves Buck with custody of Chris after Eddie is... missing presumed. While they navigate their new family circumstances -- and fight to stay together, despite Eddie's parents' best efforts -- a John Doe wakes up in a coma ward with no memory of his own life beyond the knowledge he has a son named Christopher and, somehow, he needs to get home.

I've been watching 9-1-1, but haven't really been paying attention to the fic. I tried at one time, but I think the fic I chose didn't sit well with me. This fic came as a rec to me by a friend, and as soon as I noticed the "Hollywood!Amnesia" tag, I knew I had to read it.This fic takes you on the journey of Buck and Eddie as friends, and end ups husbands. Buck, Eddie, and the 118 are on a call when a mishap causes Eddie to disappear beneath the water of a rapidly flowing river. Thinking he's lost forever, Buck, who has sole custody of Eddie's son Chris (post Eddie getting shot in S04/S05 and telling Buck he's Christopher's guardian should anything happen to him) learns how to be a dad and goes through the grief of loss while trying to be strong for everyone. Meanwhile, Eddie washed up in Nowhere (city name) and is a John Doe in a coma until he wakes up with amnesia.
I do love this! Poor Buck, having his life torn out from under him. And poor Eddie, knowing he can't get to his locked memories but knowing he has a son out there that he misses. There are some "suspend believe here" parts of the fic, but that's the whole "Hollywood!Amnesia" thing for the most part. The most excellent thing is Eddie slowly getting his memory back, and coming home to Buck and Christopher.[1]
This fic is wonderful. I am typically not a fan of amnesia fics but I loved this one. Highly recommend anything from this author.[2]
so this isn’t a direct follow up from the s4 finale. this fic takes place about a year or so after the shooting incident, but it does grapple with eddie’s will and buck being christopher’s legal guardian. plus it’s just SO SOFT and exactly the type of fic i wanted to read after seeing that hospital confession scene.[3]
If you want to cry your eyes out with the promise of a happy ending then this is the place for you. Hayley really knows how to masticate your heart and then make it all better with beautiful romance. AU in which Eddie “dies” (temporarily) and Buck becomes Christopher’s guardian.[4]
This story came for me personally with a fatal two-hit combination of my beloved amnesia and presumed-dead tropes, and the author absolutely destroyed me with both sides of the story - Buck and Christopher grieving and figuring out their new life together, and amnesiac!Eddie managing to pine without remembering what he's longing for. Heartbreaking, romantic, beautifully written. I've already read it twice![5]

a brilliantly written, heartwarming buddie fic. I usually avoid amnesia fics, but this one was just so lovely. And I regret leaving it unread in my bookmarks for so long. Just. SO. Good.[8]
