Leap of Faith is a slash 145-page Sentinel novel by Legion.

original cover, Alex Zacarola
later cover

It contains a cover and single interior illustration by Alex Zacarola.

The zine was edited by Susan L. Williams.

It was the winner of the Huggy Award 2003 for Best Sentinel Novel.

The Covers

It appears that the original cover, that of a creature/man with a forehead protuberance, was later replaced by an image of Jim and Blair against a dark background.

In fact, with later editions, the Zaracola image wasn't actually removed but covered up by the second image (attached with double-sided tape).

From the Editor

From the zine:

Welcome to LEAP OF FAITH by Legion, the second-ever zine from SpiderWeb Press. I’ve had a great time working with

Legion for the past few months getting the manuscript ready for publication.

First thanks of course go to Legion, one of the most popular writers of fanfiction for The Sentinel. Thanks for having enough faith in me to give me your story.

Huge thanks also to Vikster, Kandy, Jean, and Seah, for all their help to a beginning zine publisher.

Excerpt

"You think you could promise me what I need and make it happen, no matter what I ask for?" he said skeptically.

"I could. I would, if you would give me a promise in return," Elder murmured. "What would you give, James? What price is your heart's desire worth?"

Meeting the empty black of Elder's eyes, Jim said solemnly, "Everything that's mine to give. For my heart's desire."

"Done!" Elder proclaimed, and it brushed a kiss over Jim's mouth. "Everything that's yours to give in exchange for me giving you your heart's desire."

Not returning the kiss, Jim stared at the thing, letting distrust, fear, doubt and disbelief fill his expression. "Just like that, as if you could really make it happen."

"I can, I tell you." Elder ran a possessive hand over Jim's arm. "I swear it, and I am more bound by an oath than you could possibly understand."

Looking away from the compelling gaze, Jim stared out at the city, wishing he could see Blair, wishing he could touch him one more time. Then he said carefully, "Then I swear that I give you everything that is mine to give; in return no evil, nor anything or any person touched by evil, can harm my beloved, Blair Sandburg, for the rest of his natural life."

Reactions and Reviews

By Legion, who can write no wrong. The Devil himself is in Cascade & wants Blair's soul in the worst way. Jim sees what he is & what he wants & offers up himself in place of his Guide. [1]
