Reactions/Reviews
[crickets] You've done a great job with this. Love all the motion and matching and heartbreak. The song is beautiful and now that I know what the lyrics mean, I can say that it is a wonderful choice meaning-wise as well. Beautiful.[1]
[kiki_miserychic] OMG I can't believe I never came back to tell you how much I love this vid. I love the movement and I'm Lions and the fucking door closing in the wave in the hands in the photo with the wave. The use of the photo throughout is so good. And those quick cut edit sections are fab. I am still struck with emotions. It's an excellent pulling together of his storyline and it almost convolutes it more than the show does but the way that you worked with the lyrics and the musical cues makes it more accessible to a viewer I think. OMG the head turning and use of him "thinking" clips get me so good. PENNY. The spinning bits have such fluid motion. [2]
[dualbunny] I've never watched Lost so I don't know any plot specifics, but I was captivated by this vid. :} It's so dynamic and emotional, and I was swept up completely. The things you did with the ocean imagery in particular were just stunning. :D [3]
[obsessive24]This is BEAUTIFUL. Your use of motion seriously surpassed even my expectations and that's no easy feat, I can tell you. The matching of the turning head motions was brilliant and very reminiscent of Jarrow's Love Turns 40 - I know you're a big fan of that vid so perhaps some of that was conscious homage? Whether yes or not, it was beautifully done all the same. The pacing is simply superb, the bits where you go into supercharged motion particularly chill-inspiring (0:47 - the eye!). And the external footage! *draws little hearts around the vid* And omg, 2:36 with the light through the trees!!! So gorgeous!
And I have no idea what the vid is about. :P nonetheless, the editing captured me through and through and I really, really liked it.[4]
[bananainpyjamas]So pretty! I agree with Nicky, the use of head turns reminds me a lot of Love Turns 40. I can see how this story would be difficult to vid but I think you made the right call in keeping things non-linear and jumbled. I don't know what's going on anyway so it's all good to me. ;)
The ocean footage is all really pretty and very well integrated with the Lost clips. Had you not mentioned it I would have assumed they're from the same source. Although I suppose Lost doesn't look that artsy. :)
I also like that it's in French. Was this the song you were unsure about? It's pretty and I don't mind not being able to understand the lyrics. The emotion comes through loud and clear anyways.
Favorite moments:
- 0:12 - Turning to the side and then up, on beat no less. Nice continued motion there.
- 0:46 - Love the quick cuts ending with the eye.
- 0:52 - Cool color shift and nice use of an extended clip.
- 0:53 - GORGEOUS continued motion. I love it when you do that. :D
- 0:56 - Hee, love the number flip over the little ping in the music.
- 1:46 - Great use of rolling clouds over the fluttering in the music.
- 1:56 - Lovely spinny pan over the strings.
- 2:01 - Hee, explosion over a little ping!
I love how everything starts to spiral out of control by the end. You handle the build perfectly. And then there's that moment of respite with the ocean footage before the ending montage of quick cuts. That was awesome.
Great work hun! Your bidder definitely got their money's worth. :D[5]
[pauline_73]Wow. Just wow. I've watched quite a lot of videos so far, but I've rarely been this moved by one of them. And I'm just a "casual" Lost watcher, meaning I had forgotten half of the scenes you used, so that means A LOT. I loved all of the close-ups on Desmond's expression, especially when they are merged with pictures of sea and waves, it was so fitting with the song. It's crazy how your editing is both quick, but still smooth, if that makes sense.. The last part, after the key is turned, and there are all of these pictures with the drum sounds in the background definitely gave me chills!
In case that wasn't clear enough, you did a terrific job, and this goes up in my list of favorite vids![6]
[hollywoodgrrl] There's something about the fact that I tear up from just READING THE LYRICS that translates to your success at putting together this glimpse into Desmond's soul. It's brilliant. Truly brilliant and utterly beautiful. Milly screened it at VVC and I wept (again).[7]
