Kirk/Spock: The Epic Love Story is a K/S vid created for KiScon by Rhaegal.

Reactions and Reviews

This amazing vid, nearly 22 minutes long, was created by Rhaegal for the closing ceremony for KiScon 2012. The music is from “Ghost the Musical”, and the quotes during the overture are from the people at the kirkspock LJ community.

This video starts with our first sight of Kirk and Spock playing chess in “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. Then, against a backdrop of many of the wonderful slashy moments from TOS, are quotes from fans on what K/S means to them. The clips are beautifully selected and presented. The music fades in and out from one perfectly chosen piece to another, and the soundtrack includes snippets of actual, crucial dialogue. Rhaegal chooses her special effects wisely; the effects enhance the scenes they accompany. The vid follows their love from TOS to STTMP. We hear Spock’s “This simple feeling”. The timeframe moves to TWOK and the music changes to the inspired choice of “Unchained Melody”. Rhaegal’s decision to use B&W through some of the clips from TSFS makes for a powerful and moody piece. A black and white Kirk mourns while sepia toned memories of him and Spock play in the background. The beautifully elegiac music is a perfect choice for Kirk’s grief. And what she does with the scene in Spock’s cabin gave me chills. If this segment were a standalone vid, I would consider it one of the best vids ever made for “The Search For Spock”. We now see Sarek’s mindmeld with Kirk. Great choices of effects, both visual and sound, for what Sarek sees in Kirk’s mind. The music then hits a faster tempo and we go back to color as we follow Kirk, haunted by memories of Spock, through further scenes from TSFS. The music becomes quieter as we watch the Bounty departing Vulcan. A montage of San Francisco scenes follow, culminating in their side by side walk out of the Starfleet hearing chamber.

Then Yosemite and marshmallows. Then a wonderful reprise of a gorgeous version of Unchained Melody plays over scenes from ST6. [1]
