Kelly Marie Tran (born Trần Loan in 1989) is a Vietnamese-American actress. She is best known for her role as Rose Tico in The Last Jedi, where she was the first woman of color to have a major role in a Star Wars film.

While many fans welcomed her into the franchise, both she and her character fell victim to horrible racist and sexist abuse online, leading to Tran quitting social media[1], and Rose's page on Wookieepedia, the Star Wars fandom wiki, being locked.[2].
When she was first introduced as part of the cast, many Star Wars fans were happy to see that Tran herself was a fan of Star Wars. While active on social media, she often wore fannish clothing and showed support for various fandoms.
