Josephus "Joe" Miller is a weary detective from Ceres. He was tasked with finding Julie Mao, developing feelings for her while working the case.
Canon
He begins the series a cynical detective, willing to take payoffs and making arrests only when he has to. While working to discover what has happened to Julie he develops feelings for her, breaking the classic tough-detective shell.
He was born and raised on Ceres Station in the Belt, turning to crime to survive. When he became an adult he became a cop, eventually becoming a detective and working for Star Helix security, meaning working for Earth. This is controversial to those in the Belt as Earthers are oppressors of Belters.
