Vastra/Jenny is a femslash pairing of Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint from Doctor Who fandom

Eleven era

Vastra and Jenny are a married couple who typically live in London during the 19th century. They first appear in the sixth series episode "A Good Man Goes to War" after being recruited by the Eleventh Doctor to help him rescue Amy Pond. Although this relationship is taken for granted in the story, they are probably the first interspecies gay couple to appear on mainstream English-language TV.

Twelve era

In "Deep Breath", the first episode of the eighth series, Vastra, Jenny and Strax arrive in central London to witness a dinosaur marching through the city and proceeding to cough up the TARDIS. Upon finding the TARDIS, they find emerging from it a recently regenerated Twelfth Doctor, who falls unconscious. The three, along with Clara, take him back to their home to rest, while they attempt to solve the problem of the dinosaur.

Vastra/Jenny became popular after their first appearance in "A Good Man Goes to War." Many fans wished for a spin-off series featuring the pair, however show-runner Steven Moffat stated that he did not have time to work on a spin-off but was open to the possibility of the characters returning. This went on to happen as Vastra, Jenny and a revived Strax were made a recurring part of the seventh series, much to fans approval.

Common Tropes

  • First meeting - due to their relationship already being established when they were introduced in the series, fanworks often imagine how the couple came to meet.
  • Sherlock Holmes crossovers - Vastra and Jenny are implied to be the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, this has lead to much crossover in fanart and fanfics.
  • Sharing Body Heat - Mostly for Vastra's benefit within fanworks, as being a Silurian leads to some playing into the cold-blooded aspects of Vastra's reptile physiology.
