Jazz Jin Secret Menu was a Persona 5 zine project. The project was cancelled shortly after a case of unprofessional behavior among the zine's organizers.

About

A majority of following documentation has been collected from secondhand sources and copies of the project's social media posts reblogged by other Tumblr accounts, since records of the zine's social media account and activity have been deleted since the project's cancellation and therefore cannot be accessed.

Project Timeline

Named after the Jazz Jin, a jazz club that existed in the enhanced version of the game, Persona 5: The Royal, the project was intended to be not only an fanart and fanfiction showcase, but also a recipe book for alcoholic drinks.

An interest check was run around approximately December 14, 2020 to January 10, 2021[1]. Applications for contributors opened approximately on January 3, 2021 and ended on February 5, 2022. Contributors could apply as page artists, merch artists, writers, and recipe contributors[2].

Unprofessional Conduct and Cancellation

On June 25, 2021, zine contributor erbezdiez posted a thread on Twitter detailing unprofessional treatment from one mod on the team [3]. They reported having been recently been kicked off the project due to the supposed lacking quality of their final pieces, which the mod called substandard and rushed, despite the positive feedback the contributor received from the mod throughout the creation process[4]. As proof, the contributor released screenshots of conversations they had with the mod from the project's Discord server.

After the thread's posting, the mod in question replied to the thread on their personal account accusing the contributor of tracing their art, to which the contributor denied the allegations[5]. Existing tweets towards the zine project indicate that the mods also made these accusations through the project's social media account[6]. The exchange garnered attention from other Twitter users who pushed back on the accusations and came to the contributor's defense, pointing out the mod's lack of professionalism.

Shortly after the thread's release, all social media accounts belonging to the project were deleted, marking the project's end. The remaining contributors would later post their work online at a later date.
