International Relations is a Vecchio/Fraser story by Adrienne.
Reactions and Reviews
This is a very sexy story indeed--and also a very long one. That said, the plot isn't at all complicated. Fraser has been transferred to Ottawa and Ray comes to visit him. While Ray is there, everyone celebrates Canada Day, and Fraser has to ride escort for the Queen. There's a bit more to it than that, but not much. The story deals more with Fraser showing Ray around Ottawa than any events which happen. In her foreword, Adrienne said that certain parts of the story might sound like a tourist brochure because she actually lives in Ottawa, and parts do, but it never distracts from the story. Indeed the reader, like Ray, is captivated by the sights and sounds of Canada's capital as Fraser shows Ray around, takes him out to eat, and tells him all about the history of the city. There are some humourous bits too, such as the scene where Ray discovers a maple leaf on Fraser's horse's rear end.
That said, however, the best parts of this story are the sex scenes. They are very hot despite being extremely tastefully written. The sexual tension felt by both men infects the reader, and both Fraser and Ray's viewpoints are dealt with. Unlike in most other Due South slash stories, Fraser and Ray do not immediately fall into each other's arms and express their undying love. Fraser admits he loves Ray, but it takes Ray a long time before he can reciprocate, although he is attracted to Fraser from the first.
If you are looking for a slightly different slash story--minimum angst and maximum relationship stuff, then International Relations is the story for you. I loved it. [1]
