Instantaneous is a John/Rodney Stargate Atlantis story by cimorene.
Summary: [instantaneous] 2005. explicit sexual content; sheppard/mckay; set somewhere in season one. "God, life is so unfair. I find what appears to be the sole personal teleportation device in the city, it decides it likes you, and what do you do with it? Save the city with a stunning feat of bravery and tactical prowess? No. You don't even bring me coffee--you use it to increase your repertoire of juvenile humour with a prank that three-year-olds have been carrying off successfully without teleportation probably for centuries."
Reactions and Reviews
Sometimes I miss the good old days of SGA fic, where a plot could be as simple as the boys finding an Ancient toy and having fun with it. Thus, Instantaneous. John touches an Ancient device and suddenly has a personal matter transport device in his hand. As in *in* his hand. *shudder* Anyway, this translates into John being able to transport himself instantly from one place to another, which of course leads to scientific experimentation, pranks, and surreptitious Rodney stalking. I like the pure geeky fun Rodney and John get out of their new favorite toy, the way they snark (but are still friends), and, in a perverse sort of way, I like the fact that stalker!John is kind of creepy, even if he tries to convince himself he isn't. Canon!John really isn't a very nice guy, and while fanon!John is much better, he still has issues. cimorene doesn't forget that, and the story is better for it.[1]
It's an exciting adventure. And it's hot. I enjoyed reading.[2]
Fabulous use of plot, Ancient artifacts, and John having a long-standing crush on Rodney. The plot on its own is well-written and thought out, but when you combine that with the John/Rodney, it makes for a excellent story.[3]
