The Ineffable Con is a fan-run convention focused on Good Omens and the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley, often known as Ineffable Husbands. It first took place from 18-20 October 2019 in Buckinghamshire, England, and was brought back for a second time as an all-virtual convention, running from 16-18 October 2020.

The first con was co-chaired by Rhaegal and Tracionn, and the second was co-chaired by Rhaegal and Bethany.

The Ineffable Con organisers have also held related events outside of the main conventions, such as watch parties and a Good Omens 30th birthday party celebration in May 2020. The Ineffable Con online events have been co-chaired by Rhaegal and Bethany.

2019: The First Ineffable Con

The first Ineffable Con was held in Buckinghamshire, UK, co-chaired by Rhaegal and Tracionn on 18th - 20th October 2019. 55 people attended the first convention, held at Lane End Conference Centre, Buckinghamshire, UK. The convention was run entirely by volunteers, and surplus was donated to Alzheimer's Research UK - a total of £1,258.93 was raised in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett.

Activities and panels at the con included a kink bingo, fanfic writing round robins, a gavotte workshop, a snake handling session, a raffle, a caption contest, a mini story and art challenge, an art show and auction, a vid show and much more. Fans also sold crafts at the con and brought charms for a charm swap.

At the convention's opening ceremony it was also revealed that the con would be playing host to a special guest: Mary, the Bentley from the Good Omens TV show, and her owner Jeremy Marshall-Roberts. The grand prize for the con raffle also included a ride to Hambleden (which provided the setting for Tadfield in Good Omens) in the Bentley. Mary and Jeremy later returned as (virtual) guests for the second Ineffable Con.

Publications

The Ineffable Con programme contains an overview of all of the convention activities and provides a Good Omens map of London for the optional tour for attendees on Monday 21st October. A full explanation of the tour can also be found on the website.

Attendees, supporting members and Good Omens fans created a zine. There is also a The Ineffable Con Zine AO3 collection and an unmoderated collection of fanworks created for and inspired by the con, also on AO3.

Vid Show

28 vids were collated as part of The Ineffable Con's vid show, from attendees, supporting members and Good Omens fans across the globe. There is a playlist on The Ineffable Con's YouTube channel of those whose creators gave permission to share. DVDs were distributed to all attending and supporting members.

The Ineffable Con Watch Parties

May 2020 marked both the 30th anniversary of the Good Omens book and the one-year anniversary of the TV show. To celebrate, The Ineffable Con team took part in a rewatch of the series on Twitter and hosted after-parties using Zoom:

  • 10th May 2020: #WrongBirthday
  • 17th May: #GORewatch
  • 24th May: #GORewatch
  • 31st May: #HappyArmaversary

30th Birthday Party

In addition to the watch parties, in May 2020 the TIC organisers planned to host a physical birthday party for the Good Omens book and show. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the party was moved online; it was held on 2 May 2020, and more than 500 people from across the globe signed up to attend.[1] Many new games were created for the event, such as Good Omens-themed bingo, 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' and 'Wheel of Fortune', which were added to 'Cards Against Armageddon', made for The Ineffable Con. All games are still available to access online.

During both the 30th birthday party and the rewatches, guests were encouraged to donate to Alzheimer's Research UK, in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett. A total of £3,306 was raised and, in May, The Ineffable Con reached the top 3% of fundraisers on JustGiving, out of 38,641 fundraisers in total.

Following a revelation that the original Good Omens book was actually published on 10th May and not the 2nd, organisers Rhaegan and Bethany held an additional celebration and watch party on the 10th, using the hashtag #WrongBirthday. The watch party was accompanied by breakout chats and games on Zoom.[2]
