This is set after the 'Enemy Within'. Spock confronts how Kirk in only the short space of time he has been Captain, has affected his and Spock's outlook. As the story was written in [1979] this theme has obviously been explored many times since. Even so, [April Valentine] makes one or two telling observations about Spock and, in the manner of many earlier stories; the Vulcan is in much greater conflict, with himself over his emotions.[1]
