Icarus has been involved in fandom since 1999 and currently writes in the Stargate Atlantis and Supernatural fandoms.
History
Lord of the Rings
The fandom where Icarus started in 1999. She wrote meta under the name Marileangorifurnimaluim on the conservative Barrow-downs forum. There she read an anti-slash screed and followed a link to her first slash fiction story.
She published several short LotR slash stories at the Library of Moria archive under the name Icarus in 2001.
Harry Potter
In 2002, Icarus quietly began a Harry Potter fan fiction novel, posting a chapter a day. The original unbeta'd version with 28 chapters of Primer to the Dark Arts is still available on FanFiction.Net. Years later a version of Primer to the Dark Arts with only 15 chapters was published – only for registered users – at Archive of Our Own. This story is sometimes referred to as one of the Harry/Snape classics.
In late January 2003, the NC-17 RestrictedSection.org archive received a Cease & Desist letter from Raincoast Books. With the green light from Kissaki of RS.org, Icarus launched the RS.org Sleazy Fic Drive, promoting more NC-17 Harry Potter stories in response. Ink-Stained Fingers and the former Snitchfiction archive offered to house the stories.
Between 2002 and 2005, Icarus wrote approximately 70 Harry Potter fics, including fourteen Percy-centric stories. She played Percy (interimminister) in the HP Dungeons RPG, and moderated the 2004 Percy Fic-A-Thon. Icarus runs the Percyness archive.
Stargate
In 2005, Icarus began writing in the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis fandoms. She also began collecting Stargate Recs.
Fanlib Controversy
In 2007, Fanlib launched an attempt to capitalize on fanfiction. Icarus compiled fan reactions as well as articles from mainstream press and the blogosphere in Summing Up FanLib. This post was linked to all over fandom and by Henry Jenkins.
