"I Will Carry You" is a Lord of the Rings vid by Kaci. The vidder describes the vid as follows: "Video exploring Sam & Frodo's friendship (or potential slash relationship, if you want to take it that way. Part of the reason why I chose this song is that it's ambiguous. It could be about a friend, it could be about a lover. Totally up to you). Rated PG."
Vidder's summary: "When your world breaks down and the voices tell you turn around/when your dreams give out, I will carry you."
Reactions/Reviews
This vid was reviewed by Luridmuse aka Nysie at the reel vidding comminity on July 29, 2007:
"Overall impression: Overall I am very fond of this video. I had my husband, a LotR fan-boy (he says he’s a geek) sit with me through watching it because he can be very good at LotR fandom critiques. He and I were both very impressed with the smooth transitions and the timing, and how it tells the story of Samdo..err.. From.. err.. Sam and Frodo and their journey to Mt. Doom, and this video is now safely tucked away on his computer for LotR video viewing pleasure.
Titles: Clean and easy to read, they come at the end of the video. This does make the opening happen very suddenly in the beginning with no lead in to the music or video it’s just like “pop” video starts. Even a small black screen lead in without music would have made it a bit less startling when the vid starts.
Music choice: The music choice is great. The song tells very well the story of Sam and Frodo, either friendship or more, it’s left up to your perception of their relationship. The song explains very well how Sam in the story had to carry Frodo thru Mordor or he would have never made it on his own. All in all I don’t think a more befitting song could be used for these 2.
Narration, Tone and Movement: The narration is the story of Sam and Frodo and their trials to Mt. Doom. The tone is a little sad, but more an uplifting tale of what friendship can help achieve. The movement of the video is very smooth, flowing with the music, and timed well to events happening in the clips. There were several moments the vidder timed the music to explosions or effects to a tee. Cuts, Transitions, Effects & Coloring: no special effects are really used outside of an overlay from scene to scene. Nothing overdone, it adds to the smooth movement of the song/vid. Anything more than the simple overlays would have taken away from the song and vid itself.
Specific vid & music notes: 0:00 – 0:11 the video opens up with Sam’s face, then flash of Frodo being stabbed by Shelob in her lair, then with him being cacooned in webbing. This was a very nice opening and timed well with the lyrics “I know it hurts. I know your scared” 0:15-0:18 “Walking down a road that leads to who knows where” timed nicely with a scene of Sam and Frodo looking out on Mt. Doom and the stretch of land between them and where they need to be. 0:34 “when your world breaks down” it timed beautifully with the explosion of Barad-dur. 0:39 there is a shot of Frodo looking down that was used earlier in the video, while it fits the lyrics here and there, another shot might have been considered so that it wasn’t used twice in the same video. 0:48-0:52 Well timed chunk of the video of Sam reaching is hand down to a distraught Frodo to the line “I will carry you” 1:04 Frodo falling in time with “when your falling behind” and then Sam coming to pick Frodo up off the ground to the line “I will carry you” 1:19-1:37 Vidder uses the same long clip for this whole chunk of video. Normally they moved between scenes and didn’t stick on one scene for so long so it seems out of place or gives the feeling of “Talking head” scenes. Though it does fade in nicely at 1:38 to Frodo in bed waking up timed with the lyrics “close your eyes and go to sleep, and wake up to another day” 2:25-2:37 Sam’s mouth while speaking to Frodo while trying to pull him up off the edge of the lava pit here is well timed with the lyrics and looks almost like Sam is saying them to Frodo. The video finishes with several very nice and smoothly transitioned clips of Sam carrying Frodo and some hobbit snuggling J and at the very end is shows a nice role reversal of Frodo hugging Sam and “Carrying” him as well.
Final notes: This is an excellent video representation of the trials of the hobbits. I would definitely recommend this to any lord of the rings fan to watch and some who are not fans to show the power of friendship and what you can overcome. The vidder really did a wonderful job with it."
