I'm Not Okay (I Promise) is a song on the second album by My Chemical Romance (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge). The song was released as a single in September 2004 and has achieved special significance in MCR fandom in part because it was the band's first MTV music video. The video is done in the style of a film trailer; set in a private high school, the bandmembers are outcasts who then have a showdown with the popular athletes who bullied them. The video has inspired a whole subgenre of High School AUs, as well as plenty of fanart. The making-of video, included in Life on the Murder Scene, has also been incorporated into fanworks.
A low-budget video was previously made for the song[1], but did not have as much impact on fans. Some of the footage was reused in Life on the Murder Scene.
