Hypothesis is a Star Trek: DS9 story by Terrie Drummonds.

Oh, yeah, this one. Been a while since I read it, and I'm missing a few chunks from the final version, so bear with me. I think I sent praise to the author already for the part she posted as a separate scene, about Jake writing a story about an emissary and having a hard time putting it in front of his father. Nice handling of the scene, and of Jake's reactions to the results of his trip. I really liked the use of the wormhole aliens/Prophets in communicating with Sisko, and the way the vision-Bashir talked to Sisko when no one else could see him -- I forget if it was ever explained why that happened -- maybe it was covered in the parts I'm missing!

Haven't had a chance to read as many of the DS9 stories, but I've read a few. Wanted to say some nice things about Terrie's ambitious foray in "Hyptothesis." I appreciated Terrie's attempt to create a "bad guy" who wasn't bad by her own lights. A scientist gone over the top, she represented the dangers of obsession with an idea. It's nice when the bad guys aren't all 2D.

Another rather nice twist in this one was the view of Jake trying to deal with the fact his father is the Emissary, a major religious figure in a religion that's not his. It's gotta mess with the kid's head. I mean, how does one live with a messiah? <G> If I had any real complaint about the story, it's that I'd have liked to see Terrie push this further, do more with it.

This one has action for those who like action, and politics for those who like politics, but it's a little more than your typical shoot-em up adventure story. :)
