hpreadaloud is a LiveJournal community for creating a fan-produced audiobook of the Harry Potter book series. When the community was created, five books had been published, and the project stalled out partway through the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. At least 34 readers participated.

The Harry Potter Read Aloud is a project that I (kat99999) had the idea for when posting an audioblog. There is nothing like reading aloud, particularly books with as much imagination and excitement as the Harry Potter series, and I thought it would be an excellent idea to bring together the fandom and record chapters, or parts of chapters and put them all in one place! To see how each person reads, relates and continues the stories would hopefully hold the interest of many, and with so many Harry Potter fans around, who love the books, what better way to celebrate them?
The Read Aloud chapters will be posted here, at the community, a few times a week, and be available for all to listen. If you wish to be involved in the reading, please join, and a fun time can be had by all! [1]

The first chapter was posted as a series of ogg files recorded on a cell phone.[2] Some of the later chapters were mp3 or wav files.

As of 2017 the community had 96 posts; 1,107 comments; and 68 members.[3] In 2004, the community had 147 members.[1]

hpreadaloud was the inspiration for sbp_aloud, a community for recording The Shoebox Project, which in turn inspired the growth of podfic on LiveJournal.
