Fist of the North Star is a completed post-apocalyptic shounen manga written by Buronson and illustrated by Hara Tetsuo.
The anime was often shown at convention movie rooms before subtitled or translated versions were available. Sometimes a program guide gave a synopsis of the plot, and sometimes fans worked as translators, usually paraphrasing rather than translating directly.
After the first few battles, the audience would sometimes "help" translate as Kenshiro spoke angrily, just before yet another shirt fell to shreds as he bulked up, "You there! See, my shirt has ripped off! Now you will die!"
