The Hogwarts Legacy Boycott is a boycott of the video game Hogwarts Legacy, a game set in the Wizarding World by JK Rowling. The boycott was part of a wider effort among fandom and the trans community in particular to discourage folks from engaging with the Harry Potter universe, although the antisemitism of the game's plotline and worldbuilding was probably its biggest grievance amongst audiences and critics.[1]

The Boycott

Many prominant jewish and/or trans community members have talked about the game, including James Stephanie Sterling, Council of Geeks, Jessie Gender, and vaspider:

This is why you aren’t an ally if you buy Hogwarts Legacy. No, buying the game doesn’t make you a transphobe, and I’m tired of hearing the self-martyring whinging about that. I’m not saying you’re transphobic for buying Hogwarts Legacy - I’m saying you’re not an ally. You handed that card in because you couldn’t do the barest minimum, you couldn’t make the simplest stand. It’s not that hard to not buy a “AAA” videogame.[2]

Copypasta

A copypasta was spread around that spoiled the ending of the game:

Your teacher, Professor Eleazar Fig, dies at the end of Hogwarts Legacy. This happens in all possible endings and can't be changed. Oh and Rookwood is the one who cursed Anne while the goblins were framed

Responses

“Be gay do crime!!” “Eat the rich!!”

And you can’t even boycott the most famous TERF in the UK[3]
