Higher and Higher is a slash 278-page Kiefer/Lou novel by NJ Kippax.

The pairing is Tad Allagash and Sean Mendoza.

Summary

From the publisher:

Book Two of the Allagash/Mendoza Saga. The second novel explores the past and present lives as the two men struggle for a permanent relationship. Sean’s world and identity are challenged by a life-threatening situation, and Tad must deal with those challenges and the effect they have on his lover and their relationship. Love, betrayal and fidelity.

Series

It is part of a series, the last which was never published:

The Author's Foreword

Those who read and enjoyed the previous novel, An All Time High, will be pleased to know that the story didn’t end on that New Year’s Eve of commitment, or that the short story, A Valentine High (Boys are Back #2) wasn’t an isolated incident but rather a preamble to this, the second written segment in the lives of Sean and Tad.

It is revealed, in the course of this novel, that the ideal and perfect Dr. Mendoza is hardly that. As someone commented, after reading An All Time High and being told the plot of this second novel, “I suspected there was more under the surface of that man than was immediately obvious.” And that is true; like any real human being, which is what both Sean and Tad are to me, Sean brings his own set of problems and insecurities into the relationship. This book is an attempt to pull the man apart and then put him back together again, a theme I happen to love. And Tad, bless his heart, gets an opportunity to grow and bloom a bit, to have the best in him brought out by adversity.

But fear not — the Allagash/Mendoza saga is a love story, first and foremost. Nor is this the end. The third book is nearly completed in the first draft, quite as lengthy as this one. Originally planned as a trilogy, lately there have been subsequent ideas, so the concept of a fourth is not outside the realm of possibilities. Tad and Sean seem to want to go on telling their story well into the 21st Century, so who knows.

As must be obvious by now, I am inspired by music. I’ve always been attuned to songs whose lyrics speak to me about the characters I create and the stories and emotions I write. In An All Time High, I used individual lines of that title song for the various chapters. For Higher and Higher; because of its diversity, I chose lyrics from many different songs, some of them rather tongue-in-cheek, some poignantly appropriate. It was fun and a challenge. The lyrics to the title song are also printed separately. Incidentally, the ultimate Sean/Tad song, actually fitting the first novel but not recorded until after publication, can be heard on Air Supply’s newest release, “News from Nowhere” and is called, “Feel for Your Love". There are two separate male voices; the first is Tad, the second is Sean. Try to find it and give a listen!

Flying High

"Flying High" was to be the third installment in this series, but it was never published.

From the author in "Higher and Higher":

Sin may exact its punishment, but it can also produce its little rewards, as Sean Mendoza discovers in the upcoming novel, which picks up three years after the end of Book Two.

Repercussions of his infidelity with Renee Candeloro reach a startling conclusion, contributing to the complex conflicts in the lives of Sean and Tad.

And as Mr. Allagash nears his 30th birthday, plagued by echoes from the past and suffering from a premature mid-life crisis, he discovers there is much truth in the old adage, “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. "His lack of judgment may well destroy the relationship he's worked so hard to make a success... but does it, after all, matter to him?

Follow the highs and lows of life in South Tagged and the trials and tribulations of these two noble men and the love they share that refuses to die.
