HetaOni is a Hetalia fangame created by Tomoyoshi. Tomoyoshi originally uploaded videos of HetaOni on Nico Nico Douga [1] 2009 to 2010. The game is a crossover with horror game Ao Oni (青鬼) that features Hetalia characters trapped in a haunted mansion. The game was originally released in Japanese as game walkthrough videos on Niconico. The Japanese version of the game hasn't been updated since 2011 and will likely never be finished by the original developer due to the author's loss in 2011 earthquake. Pianodream and Neo-Kyno's English translation is up to date with the last update. There are also Chinese fanmade sequel and complete remake walkthrough videos.

Plot Summary

At a world conference, Feliciano Vargas overhears four people on the street talking about a mysterious mansion. He then decides to call Honda Kiku, Ludwig and Gilbert Beillschmidt to explore the mansion together, but get trapped in it. They meets Tommy, a monster that resembles Alfred's alien friend Tony. After fighting with Tommy, they meet Al and the other four the next day. The countries begin to work together to seek a way to escape from the haunted mansion, and discover that the time currents in the place are rather strange...

Fan Translations

HetaOni has been re-uploaded with translations on YouTube by SotetAG.

A playable English translation was made by Pianodream and Neo-Kyno using SotetAG’s english translation as a reference. Together, they made an HetaOni English Project website on the website hosting site Jimdo [2]. They are often mistaken for the creators of HetaOni, leading to fans harassing them for updates.

In 2014, the HetaOni English Project site went down, along with the download links. Due to Pianodream and Neo-Kyno leaving the fandom for over 2 years, they deleted nearly every file associated with HetaOni, along with the translated game. The game was later able to be recovered by Neo-Kyno and Deviantart user janaciao [3]. However, the link listed on Pianodream’s page worked until at least 2016, and janaciao contacted Pianodream and Neo-Kyno for their permission to share it themselves with no reply [4].

Fanmade Sequels

In Chinese Helalia fandom, fanmade sequel "续黑塔鬼" by YunMuQi_ stands out for its well-written script. It is also authorized by the original author. See walkthrough videos on author's Bilibili: https://space.bilibili.com/5672893
