Summary

From the publisher:

A career army officer finds himself thrust into the life of the English gentry as the death of his father leaves him with the title of Lord and the responsibility for one of the most renowned horse breeding estates in the country. When Lord Ellis finds discrepancies in the stud books, he sends for young teacher and accountant Blair Sandburg to set the books and records to right. Set in the Regency period, this is a novel filled with romance, smugglers, secret caves and passageways -- and adventure!

Reactions and Reviews

I have always enjoyed Serena's stories, and this was definitely no exception! This story is now available on-line... But if you choose the on-line version you're going to miss the wonderful color and b/w illustrations by KOZ. I'm not familiar with the Regency Period of England, but it sure didn't seem to diminish my enjoyment of Serena's tale. It's harder for me to say whether Jim and Blair were in character as I don't know how people of this period act, but they seemed to be as much as is possible with an AU set in a much earlier time period. English is not Serena's native language, and sometimes her words and phrases are cute and very delightful and occasionally it can lend a bit of confusion. However, Serena is such a wonderful story teller, that those instances aren't too distracting. I have to wonder just what delightful tales Serena weaves in her native language! I've loved all of Serena's stories, both 'net and 'zine published. Whenever I start, I just can't stop 'til the last page and I always hate to see it end! In this tale, Jim returns to his childhood home as the heir to his father's properties. Things aren't all rosy for Jim, though, as his father left a legacy of hate and terrible memories for Jim. Things start looking much better when Jim's new "librarian" arrives! A great tale with angst, first-time, mystery and passion! Yum! Do not be confused between this 'zine and another with the same name, though. This one has nothing to do with dragons! Why you should buy this 'zine: Nice carry around size with great illos! [1]
