Hello Kitty is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu in 1974 that has grown into a global multimedia franchise. She was part of an early line-up of Sanrio characters designed to appear on accessories and clothing (her first appearance in 1975 was on a vinyl coin purse). As her popularity grew she began featuring in a wide range of media including animated series, manga, music, films, and more.
