Hang it in the Louvre is a meme, used either in conjunction with or in response to a photograph or video that the individual deems so wonderful it deserves to be celebrated and remembered.

The use of the meme is particularly prevalent in sports fandoms, though it does see use with bandoms and other fandom spaces more generally. Within sports fandoms, the thing being celebrated is frequently a sporting achievement or win by a preferred team or player, but also quite often the misery or defeat of a rival or opposition.

Outside of sports fandoms, while the use of the phrase in celebrating an event still happens — such as a performer in front of a huge audience at a festival, for example — this seems less common. Instead, the phrase is used more often for a photograph of a person or character that the fan thinks of as beautiful or interesting.

As well as being used directly alongside images, it is also commented on photographs of similar qualities by fans on social media platforms or comments sections.

Usage

Twitter is the most frequent location to find these images, though some are also posted by fans on other social media platforms.

While many uses of the meme involve just a photograph or screencap with the sentence types alongside the image, other fans enjoy making web graphics from the photograph, such as editing it inside the Louvre or another art gallery or museum, or into a Gif set such as a painting reveal where the covering is pulled away or panned to.
