The Hanfic Genre Challenge was a Hanson fanfiction challenge moderated by Renee C. and Renee P. Authors who signed up could choose a common fiction genre to base their story upon. Many of the genres, such as horror and mystery were not common ones in hanfic. In order to qualify for awards at the end of the challenge, authors needed to submit at least five chapters. Two rounds were held, one in 2009 and one in 2010; the second round allowed authors to continue their stories from the first.
