Hana Kimi is a 23-volume shoujo manga. It was adapted into a Taiwanese drama (Hua Yang Shao Nien Shao Nu), a J-Drama (Hanazakari no Kimitachi e Ikemen Paradise), and a K-Drama (To the Beautiful You/아름다운 그대에게).

In all four versions of the story, Mizuki Ashiya (Lu Rui Xi in the twdrama/Goo Jae-hee in the K-Drama), becomes smitten with high-jumper Izumi Sano (Zuo Yi Quan/Kang Tae-joon) after seeing him perform on TV. Mizuki leaves her home and family in California and returns to Japan, where she secretly enrolls at Osaka High, an all boy's school. By chance, Mizuki and Sano are assigned to the same room.

Mizuki and Sano gradually grow closer, a process complicated by the fact that Mizuki is disguised as a boy, and is unaware that Sano is aware of her true gender. Things are further complicated by Sano and Mizuki's friend, Shuichi Nakatsu (Jin Xiu Yi/Cha Eun-gyeol), who is falling in love with Mizuki.

The Taiwanese Hana Kimi follows the manga fairly closely. The J-Drama takes the premise of the manga, and takes it in a direction of its own.

The Fandom

Hana Kimi is a small fandom. There is some activity on Livejournal and Fanfiction.net.

The manga-based fandom has a strong slash presence, as the school's doctor, Hokuto Umeda, is gay in canon. He is paired with photographer Akiha Hara, a bisexual man with a longstanding crush on Umeda. Umeda is not as important to the J-Drama's fandom. While Umeda is also gay in the drama, Akiha Hara was merged with another manga character, and turned into a woman. The drama doesn't shy away from fanservice among the male characters (there are several male/male kisses, for example), so drama-based slash fiction usually centers around Sano and/or Nakatsu.

Het in both manga and drama-based fanfic is usually centered on Sano/Mizuki, and Nakatsu/Mizuki. There are also fans of the Sano/Mizuki/Nakatsu OT3.

The fandom for the Taiwanese version of Hana Kimi is even smaller. Fanfic for the twdrama are few, and difficult to find.
