The Haikyuu!! Holidays Exchange was a series of four seasonally-marked rounds of a fanfiction and fanart gift exchange, taking place between 2014 to 2016. It is the biggest and longest-running gift exchange challenge for Haikyuu hosted on AO3. The exchange was solely moderated by aroceu.

Due to running biannually, the exchange was split up into two seasonal events: the Winter Holidays Exchange, and the Summer Holidays Exchange. The exchange was also shortened to "hqhols," such as on Twitter, which also allowed the seasonal events to be shortened to "hqwinterhols" and "hqsummerhols."

After the summer 2016 round, the official Tumblr blogs and Twitter posted an announcement that no more rounds were planned for the future.[1][2][3]

About the Exchange

A Haikyuu! fanworks exchange! Not necessarily winter-themed but certainly in the spirit of the season and the holidays that come with it. Also not hemisphere-specific. (Works from 2014 are here, works for future exchanges will be in a subcollection.) - from the Haikyuu Winter Holidays Exchange Collection on AO3

The Haikyuu Holidays Exchange was run primarily on Archive Of Our Own, with communication via email as well as the Twitter and Tumblr social media accounts. The signup allowed users to request a minimum of 3 or 4 unique relationships, and offer a minimum of 3 or 4 unique relationships as well. The minimum requirements for fanworks were 1000 words of fic, or 500px by 300px of fanart, with no upper limit. The exchange used a mix of handmatching and the AO3 matching system, and lasted through a significant portion of each respectively themed Northern Hemisphere season. During 2015, both the summer and winter rounds ended with a friending meme for all participants and pinch hitters on Dreamwidth.

A Haikyuu!! fanworks exchange, modeled after the winter holiday exchange - fest is not necessarily summer themed, despite the title, but in spirit of relaxation, vacation, and enjoyment. - from the Haikyuu Summer Holidays Exchange 2015 Collection on AO3
