In Canon
Glorfindel is a powerful warrior of Gondolin who is killed while slaying a Balrog. Due to his heroic qualities, he is eventually returned to Middle-earth by the Valar. During his second life, he saves Frodo from the Nazgul at the ford of Rivendell and takes part in the Council of Elrond.
He is described as golden-haired, handsome, strong, merry, and wise.
In Fandom
Characterization
Glorfindel is often depicted as a charismatic, cheerful elf who is confident, a powerful warrior, and highly sought after in romance. On the other hand, due to his time in the Halls of Mandos and the potential difficulties which come with a violent death and resurrection, he is a popular target for trauma-related whump and angst.
Shipping
Glorfindel is most frequently shipped with Erestor. As of November 2024, Glorestor is the most common ship for either of them, the fifth most common in "The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien" tag on Ao3, and the sixth most common in "The Lord of the Rings - All Media Types", with nearly 1,500 fics in total. Glorestor often takes on a sun/moon dynamic in which Glorfindel is the sun.
Glorfindel is also frequently shipped with Ecthelion of the Fountain or with original characters.
