Gemini Saga is a character from Saint Seiya. He is the Gemini gold saint.

Canon

Saga is a man tormented by his good and his evil personality. He used to be just and kind person, but when his evil personality awoke, he killed the Pope Aries Shion and impersonated him.

Fandom

On AO3, Saga is in the number one of Saint Seiya character tags. There are three ships in the top ten AO3 featuring Saga.

The fandom has several fan names to refer to Saga's personalities. Some of them are "good Saga" and "evil Saga". The evil side of his personality is also named "Kurosaga", taken from the Japanese fandom (kuro means black in Japanese), or "dark Saga". The evil side is also called Arles sometimes, as unlike in the manga, Shion's death was not a secret, and he was replaced by a man named Arles, who was Saga in disguise.

Retconning controversy

From December 2017 to February 2018, Masami Kurumada released three short chapters known as "Episode Zero". These three chapters were later added as intro to "Saint Seiya Final Edition" a reedition of the original manga with some tweaks and redrawn scenes. In Episode Zero, After the Episode Zero, "Saint Seiya: Origin" was released. Two chapters where a servant of Hades named Ker interferes with Saga's mind and sends a lemur to possess him, making in evil and setting him to destroy the Sanctuary from within. These new details were disliked by the fans, who thought the lemur just cheapened Saga's conflict with himself and his morals and got rid of his complexity to turn him into an innocent victim.
