(Note: All facets of the show will be explored herein; there will be stories containing Catherine as well as those with the new character Diana. When I saw the first episode of Beauty and the Beast I fell in love, as you did, with the gentle character of Vincent. His sensitivity and willingness to look beyond the obvious fired my imagination beyond anything I've seen in a long time. I started to draw him, trying to capture that beautiful expression in those amazing eyes. And while 1 struggled to capture that "something" that made Vincent unique, I told myself stories. I imagined "this is how he looks at Catherine," or "this is the soft vulnerability that comes to his eyes when he holds a child.” I told myself so many stories about the Tunnels, they became as important to me as the drawings that inspired them. So now. I'd like to share those drawings and their stories with you. The characters are From the Tunnels...the art is from our dreams.
This is the zine is also unique in that Vincent answers your letters. Haven't you been dying to know what he thinks? How he would answer all those questions you always have after seeing the snow!

From the Tunnels 1 was published in December 1989/January 1990 and contains 78 pages.

There are four pieces of the author's art and one drawing from Barb Gipson (the Gipson illo may not have been included in later editions).
A description:
Stories concentrate on Vincent and Catherine's feelings toward one other after their engagement and preparing, Below, for the birth of their child. In "McCavity!," among other things, Joe is introduced to the tunnels and Catherine feeds Vincent spaghetti at a public meal. Features letters from Vincent answering fans' questions. [1]
Stubblefield's introduction to "McCavity!":
Note: Not too long ago, I co-wrote the first issue of a small zine called Beast Beloved Tales with Kim Prosser. Among the many neat things that happened in that zine was the betrothal of Catherine and Vincent. Our Catherine was pregnant by the time she and Vincent decided he must meet the people that were important to her world if they ever hoped to have a life together. They arranged to have a masquerade and invited all of Catherine's friends, including Joe and Edie. In the course of the evening, Joe and Edie discovered Vincent’s physical “uniqueness” to be real. Edie came to accept him with no reservations...Joe had a bit more of a problem with it. The end of the story found a tentative truce between Joe and Vincent....
It seemed too good a chance to explore Vincent’s relationship with Catherine’s “world” to let the story end there. So Joe comes back to finish his introduction to this beautiful, gentle soul... and to witness the extent of Vincent’s love for the one woman in his life.
P.S. It is my belief that Catherine would still live Above, pursuing her life of service to others. Vincent would understand her drive to do this; her dedication to others was a part of what drew him to her.
So they start this story in a world between Above and Below.

This zine includes a Valentine's Day story and several more true-to-life letters wherein Vincent answers questions from fans.
