Frankencanon is a fannish term used to characterize the unholy mishmash within a single fanwork of details drawn from different adaptations of a canon or series within a franchise. It may have originated in or been popularized by MDZS fandom.

so... anyone else have absolutely zero problem flicking between cql canon and mdzs novel canon in fics?[1]

Some other fic writer coined the term ‘frankencanon’ and it stuck. I read the novel so soon after watching the show that it’s all a blend. I think I end up using mostly novel TL with cql looks.[2]

It's also possible that they'll zero in on treating BG3 as its own thing while stripping the wider canon for parts. Like there's a whole bunch of Witcher fic writers that came in via Netflix but rapidly peeled off to do their own gradual frankencanon thing as they worked through the sources.[3]

I’ve enjoyed several fic (sadly, I can’t remember names or authors) that lampshaded Mo Xuanyu and Wei Wuxian “looking nearly identical” in modern frankencanon AUs.[4]
