Creation of the Universe
Due to the very pronounced differences between Year One and Year Two of Space: 1999, fans began formulating and circulating stories to try and explain the changes and alterations. One idea that struck a chord was that the seasons were so completely different that they were actually separate parellel universes. These efforts were championed online by Maureen J. Long and Ellen Celeste Lindow, both Floridians.
Differences between Year One and Year Two
In the Florida Universe, Main Mission is and always was the control section for the Y1 universe. Likewise, Command Center has always been the control section of Moonbase Alpha in the Y2 universe. These differences explain the alternate crew, clothing and attitudes portrayed.
One of the biggest differences between the two universes was the attitudes of Commander John Koenig and Doctor Helena Russell. In Y1 they appear to be two people who have just met (with Koenig's appointment to Alpha days before Breakaway). They are attracted to each other, but don't have the time in their hectic schedules to do more than note that the attraction exists. During the progressive Y1 episodes, this attraction appears to grow stronger, until they seem to have acknowledged their attraction to each other by the time "Testament of Arkadia" occurs.
Their attitude in Y2 is much more intimate, playful, and informal, as if they have known each other longer than they have known the burdens of command that each has endured. The absence of Professor Victor Bergman is neither mentioned nor mourned by either of them, as if his death had occurred long before the other problems they have encountered on Moonbase Alpha.
